While staying at Stacey's cabin a couple of weekends ago we took this hike to Showers Lake. It is by far the most beautiful, scenic hike we've ever been on to date! The trail is varied with several areas of switchbacks and a flat walk through Meiss Meadow filled with wildflowers and streams (and some small waterfalls). It was 10.2 miles roundtrip. (I thought it was 8 but considering how dog-tired I was, 10 makes waaaaay more sense now)
To get there - go north on Hwy. 88 (from Volcano) going past Caples Lake and look for the Meiss trailhead on the right hand side. Parking is $5 and there's clean bathrooms.
You don't have to go as far as Showers Lake if you don't want to. Just hiking to Meiss Meadows was beautiful (4 miles round trip).
Word of warning. Lots and lots of mosquitos. LOTS. Yes I know they love me but trust me on this one.
